Driving Directions from Faro Airport

Those of you with GPS can use Lat: 37:08:06N (37.13505465), Lon: 7:38:19W (-7.63845921); otherwise:

There are two roads from Faro Airport to Tavira – the A22 motorway or the N125 normal road; you should take the A22 Motorway east, direction Espanha (Spain).  In Portugal, the motorway maximum speed limit is 120kph, on dual carriageways 100kph, on normal roads 90kph.  DRIVE ON THE RIGHT!

From Faro airport, follow the blue motorway signs for IP1/A22, Espanha (Spain).

When you reach the A22 motorway, ignore Lisboa/Portimao, follow Espanha.

After ~25km you reach the Tavira exit from the A22 motorway (Faro to Spain).

There is only one Tavira exit; take the N270 in this exit (direction Tavira and N125)

After ~5km you come to a roundabout on the N125; ignore the Tavira sign.

Follow N125, direction Villa Real do Santo Antonio (V R do Sto Antonio), Espanha.

After ~1km, cross bridge on River Gilão (high bridge with 30t weight restriction).

After a further ~1km, come to another roundabout; continue on N125 (Espanha).

Tavira Garden is on the left, ~250m after this roundabout.

On the right-hand side of the road are a garden centre and a large direction panel.

You are not allowed to turn left into Tavira Garden (continuous white line).

Continue ~250m to next roundabout and turn back toward Faro on N125.

After ~250m, turn right into Tavira Garden, immediately right again to Reception.

Note:

It is easy to miss the turn for the motorway from the airport.  If you find yourself going into the city of Faro by mistake, simply follow the well-signposted N125 toward Olhão, Tavira, Villa Real, Espanha.  There are four roundabouts on this road at Tavira, ~30km from Faro, but ignore the Tavira exits.  The second roundabout you meet is the one where the N270 from the A22 motorway exit joins the N125 – follow the directions above again from this point (and call me if you are running late!).

Public Transport
A taxi from Faro airport to Tavira Garden takes ~30 minutes and costs ~€35–€45 (GB£25–GB£35) in July 2006 – it varies a little with time of day, weekend, Nº of passengers, bags, etc.  Tavira Garden is well known to the taxi drivers at the airport but, if necessary, tell the driver that it is between the third and fourth roundabouts on the N125 at Tavira (entre a terça e a quarta rotunda no N125 a Tavira).  It is also possible to take bus and/or train from Faro airport to Tavira but, unless you are lucky with the connections, it can be a time-consuming journey.
